What is the Kids Club?
The Kids club is for patients (and active patient siblings) ages 5 and up who are not quite ready for treatment. There are a couple of benefits for being part of our Kids Club:
When our Kids Club members come in for visits, either at their own scheduled appointment or their siblings, it allows them to become more familiar with the office and gives them the opportunity to learn about teeth straightening and braces.
It gives us the opportunity to follow the American Association of Orthodontics guideline of children being screened by an orthodontist by the age of 7.
How does the Kids Club work?
We encourage any child 5 years and up to become a member of our Kids Club!
Once they become a member, they will receive one of our awesome More Than A Smile Orthodontics Kids Club t-shirts!
Members only contests every 3 months!
Kids Club members will get an additional entry into the quarterly contest if they come to the office wearing their t-shirt or if their birthday falls in that 3 month drawing period.
Selection of an item from our Kids Club cabinet at their visits.
When a Kids Club member turns 7, they will receive a special invitation to come in for their first official Orthodontic Consultation.
All Kids Club members will be part of the club until they move into active treatment!
What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the treatment of irregularities in the teeth and jaw with the use of braces or clear aligners.
What is an Orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dental specialist that after completing dental school, went on for an additional 2-3 years of specialized training. This training teaches them the proper way to diagnose, prevent, intercept and treat teeth and jaw irregularities. They correct existing conditions and are trained to recognize problems that may develop later on. Only those who complete this extra level of education can be called an Orthodontist. Orthodontists not only work with children, they also treat adults!
Why Age 7?
By age 7, jaw relationships are beginning to be defined with permanent teeth beginning to erupt. Front teeth and first molars should be erupted, or well on their way to being fully in. Having a trained orthodontist, like Dr. Kohout, do an examination to spot problems that may be starting. Things that he would be looking for: crossbites, severe crowding and deep overbites that would benefit from early intervention/treatment.
Benefits of a Consultation at Age 7!
A consultation/check-up at this age may reveal that your child’s bite is totally fine and no action will be needed! Or, Dr. Kohout may discover that there are some potential issues with your child’s growth and/or development, and may recommend a wait & watch period of time to see if treatment may be needed at the appropriate time. Then, in some cases, Dr. may find an issue that would benefit from early treatment.
